Review: Am I Doing This Right? by Tanya Hennessy

Challenge criteria: A book with a question in the title.

Tanya Hennessy can’t tell the time on an analogue clock, was once employed as a stilt-walker and still sleeps with Morris, her childhood teddy bear, so naturally, she is the most qualified person to write a guidebook for growing up.

AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? is an encyclopedia of life lessons that Tanya has learned so that you don’t have to. From A is for Awkward, to B is for Bodies, right through to V is for Viral and Z is for, well, ZZZZ, Tanya has compiled an entire alphabet full of hilarious, horrible, humbling and happy experiences that will make you laugh, cry and ultimately leave you feeling less alone in this complicated world.

What I liked:

I love Tanya’s videos on Facebook or You Tube, and I feel like she and I are quite similar people (Most Likely to Fail at Adulting). She brings the same humour that’s rife throughout her videos to this book, and it’s as entertaining a read as it is informative. If you enjoy any of her videos, this will definitely be the book for you.

It’s not all happy times in the book, and there are a couple of chapters in the book that hit home. These parts are tear jerkers for sure, and they’re written with the same wit and heart Tanya is known for.

It’s a super quick and super light read, and I had finished it within an hour.

What I didn’t like:

Some die hard Tanya stans might be already familiar with some of the topics Tanya discusses.

Out of five?

Five. This is a book with a lot of humour and a lot of heart.
